Subject: | Information on Proper Mode Switch Setting (Between Defrost and Heater/Defrost) to Prevent Window Moisture and HVAC Controller Assembly Logic Revision |
Models: | 2002-2003 Saturn VUE Vehicles |
Attention: | Fixed Operations Manager and Technician |
Moisture on windows (fogging condition) may occur when operating the HVAC system in the floor mode on 2002-2003 Saturn VUE vehicles built up to and including VIN breakpoint 3S844189.
For vehicles built prior to and including VIN breakpoint 3S844189, moisture from ambient air may condense on cooler surfaces such as window glass in times of high humidity and/or precipitation when the HVAC system is in the floor mode.
Important: Do NOT replace HVAC controller assembly to resolve fogging issues.
Customers should be advised to follow the recommended Owner's Handbook instructions to reduce fogging by positioning the mode knob between defrost and heater/defrost selections. Refer to the service procedure in this bulletin for Owner's Handbook information.
INFORMATION FOR SATURN RETAILER SALES STAFF AND TECHNICIANS
Saturn VUE vehicles built after VIN 3S844189 have an HVAC controller assembly with revised logic. This logic modification reduces the potential for interior glass to "fog up" during times of precipitation and high humidity. Changes affecting HVAC module air distribution and HVAC controller logic governing air flow and A/C compressor operation have occurred. Below you will find a summary of the previous (1st design) and current (2nd design) controller functions that automatically select A/C and outside air (OSA).
Important: Defrost and heater/defrost mode remain the same for 2nd design. The "Floor Mode" logic modification is the only enhancement to the 2nd design.
Important: Vehicles built up to and including VIN 3S844189 that have been serviced with the 2nd design HVAC controller will have HVAC controller assembly logic identical to vehicles built after VIN 3S844189 and higher.

The customer should be referred to the following information in the 2002-2003 Saturn VUE Owner's Handbook.

Important: To keep the glass fog free, the mode knob should be positioned between defrost and heater/defrost modes. The recirculate button should be left OFF. The mode knob should be used to regulate air flow depending on driving conditions.
Important: When using the Saturn Automotive Group Retailer Parts Inquiry system, please refer to the Parts Memo screen for part updates and correct (VIN-specific) parts usage for all HVAC components.
