This bulletin is being revised to add the 2005 model year for the L-Series and change the "Conditioning Procedure". Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 04-06-04-008 (Section 06 -- Engine).
Condition
Some customers may comment on the SES light being illuminated after purchasing the vehicle or following replacement of HO2 Sensor Bank 1 or Bank 2, Sensor 1.
Cause
This condition may be caused by moisture/humidity entering the sensing element within the heated oxygen sensor while the electrical connector is disconnected. This may occur prior to vehicle assembly or during sensor part storage at the Retail Facility or Saturn Parts Warehouse. The moisture/humidity affects the voltage output of the sensor, which the Engine Control Module (ECM) monitors to verify normal sensor operation.
Correction
Perform the "Conditioning Procedure" in this bulletin.
Conditioning Procedure
This procedure applies to new vehicles recently driven or sold or vehicles which have had either or both HO2 Sensor 1's replaced within the last 1000 miles (1609.35 km) and that have set DTCs P0130, P0135, P0150 and/or P0155 only.
- Clear DTCs P0130/P0135/P0150/P0155 for front O2 Sensor(s).
- Drive vehicle at moderate speeds for 10 minutes. (Longer drive time is not necessary.)
- Check DTCs. If front HO2S code returns, clear DTC and allow vehicle to cool and repeat procedure.
- If code returns after the second drive cycle, follow the service diagnostics for the corresponding DTC:
