Information on Servicing VUE Lock Cylinder Components

The purpose of this bulletin is to inform Saturn Retailers of a change to service parts availability for Saturn VUE lock cylinder components. The current lock cylinder kits for the doors, rear compartment and ignition cylinder will be modified to now include additional component parts to build up a complete ignition, door, or rear compartment lock cylinder assembly. Additionally, once inventory of the lock cylinder individual component parts (i.e. tumblers, springs, levers, shutter, cap, etc.) are depleted, these component parts will only be available as part of the new lock cylinder kits, P/Ns 15841203, 15841209, and 15841210.

The new lock cylinder kits, P/Ns 15841203, 15841209, and 15841210, listed in the Parts Information table can be used to replace or repair lock cylinder assemblies on Saturn VUEs built after VIN breakpoint 6S812927. These new design lock cylinder kits contain new silver sealed trivalent coated tumblers instead of the yellow brass tumblers and have new silver sealed trivalent coated cylinders instead of the yellow chromate coated cylinders.

Important: To service all locksets on Saturn VUEs built prior to VIN breakpoint 6S812927, refer to pages 9-60 through 9-63 in the Saturn VUE Parts and Illustration catalog for appropriate part numbers until inventory of these separate component parts are depleted. Once inventory of these separate component parts is depleted, the new lock cylinder kits, P/Ns 15841203, 15841209, and 15841210, can also be used on VUEs built prior to VIN breakpoint 6S812927 as long as the complete ignition lock cylinder, door lock cylinder, or rear compartment lock cylinders are replaced. (It is not necessary to replace all lock cylinders on a vehicle when servicing only one particular lock cylinder.) Do NOT mix and match the new silver sealed trivalent coated tumblers and new silver sealed trivalent coated cylinders with old yellow brass tumblers and yellow chromate coated cylinders.
