Warranty Admin. - New Definition for Parts Warranty Case Type

Subject:New Definition for Parts Warranty Case Type

Models:2002-2005 Saturn Vehicles Currently Covered Under the Saturn/GM New Vehicle Limited Warranty

Attention: Fixed Operations Manager, Biller and Technician

Purpose:

Important: This service bulletin is not applicable to Saturn retailers in Canada.

The purpose of this bulletin is to provide Saturn retailers with new warranty administration information.

Effective immediately, the use of the Parts Warranty (PW) case type has been changed. A "PW" case type can no longer be submitted while the part is currently covered under the applicable Saturn/GM New Vehicle Limited Warranty.

The "PW" case type should be used when a previously replaced/purchased part fails for a warrantable reason, and:

    • the part is not currently covered under applicable Saturn/GM New Vehicle Limited Warranties, and
    • the failure occurs within 12 months or 12,000 miles from the date of installation (12 months regardless of miles for over-the-counter purchases).

Therefore, if a vehicle is within the Saturn/GM New Vehicle Limited Warranty and a previously replaced/purchased part fails for a warrantable reason, the warranty claim is to be submitted using "VW" case type.

The Service Policies and Procedures Manual and the CSO prep manual will be updated at a later date.

Exceptions: This change has no impact on the use of S-Series case type "PE" on a previously replaced remanufactured S-Series generator covered by the 3 year/36,000 mile extended parts warranty. In addition, the "PW" case type in conjunction with labor op Z2058 will continue to be used for repairs to vehicles that have experienced damage as the result of a customer pay ACDelco battery leaking battery acid.
