Wiper Switches and Washer Pump

Circuit Description

The body control module (BCM) monitors the windshield washer pump control circuit. When a front windshield wash is requested for more than 2 minutes, the BCM will turn OFF the windshield washer pump if the front wiper is NOT requested by the wiper switch.

Battery voltage for the windshield washer pump is supplied through the FRT WIPER 25 A fuse and windshield wiper washer switch. Grounding for the windshield washer pump is through the OFF position of the rear washer switch, when equipped.

DTC Descriptor

This diagnostic procedure supports the following DTC:

DTC B3708 Front Washer Motor Input High

Conditions for Running the DTC

The ignition is in RUN or ACC position.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The front windshield washer pump control circuit is shorted to battery voltage for 2 minutes.

Actions Taken When the DTC Sets

    • No light will illuminate in the instrument panel (I/P).
    • Default turns OFF the washer motor after failing DTC if the wiper input is not active.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • A current DTC clears when the fault is no longer present.
    • A history DTC clears when the module ignition cycle counter reaches the reset threshold, without a repeat of the fault.

Diagnostic Aids

    • Check for a poor connection at the BCM. Inspect the harness connectors for backed out terminals, improper terminal mating, broken connector locks, improperly formed or damaged terminals, and poor terminal-to-wire connection, terminal crimped over wire insulation and not conductors.
    • Inspect the wiring harness for damage. Check for broken or chaffed insulation.
    • If a fault is suspected to be intermittent, wiggling the harness wiring may help in locating the fault.
