Subject:Service Information Regarding Installation of a Saturn Radio with Tape Player into a 2004 or 2005 Model Year Saturn Vehicle

Models:2004 Saturn L-Series Vehicles with RPO U1C radio
2004-2005 Saturn ION, VUE Vehicles

Attention: Technician

Purpose

The purpose of this bulletin is to provide instructions on how to install a Saturn radio with a tape player into a 2004 or 2005 Saturn vehicle. The 2004 and 2005 Saturn VUE and ION do not have a radio with a tape player as an option. The connector from the I/P harness to the radio has changed for the 2004 and 2005 Saturn ION and VUE, as well as the 2004 L-Series equipped with the U1C radio option.

Important: The 2004 L-Series still has a factory option to get a radio with a tape player, but it has a different I/P harness connector than the 2004 L-Series with the U1C radio.

Procedure

  1. Remove original radio using the "Radio Replacement" procedures in the appropriate Service Manual.
  2. Obtain the appropriate jumper harness based upon the vehicle model: ION -- P/N 22732130; VUE -- P/N 22732503; and L-Series -- P/N 22732504.
  3. Important: If the vehicle has an amplifier (ION option code UZ6 or VUE option code WBM), an additional wire will need to be added to the connector that goes into the radio. Use the instructions that are included with the radio jumper harness.

  4. Install jumper harness between I/P harness connector and new radio assembly.
  5. Reinstall radio using the "Radio Replacement" procedures in the appropriate Service Manual.
