Engine Coolant Fan Motor Replacement L66

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 1284988  Size: SH
  1. Remove the cooling fan and shroud from the vehicle. Refer to Cooling Fan and Shroud Replacement .
  2. Important: The fan and motor assembly is a balanced assembly. Be sure to mark the relationship of the fan to the motor shaft to ensure the balance is maintained.

  3. Place a scribe mark (3) on the fan (2) hub and the motor shaft (1).

  4. Object Number: 1284989  Size: SH
  5. Remove the fan retaining clip (1) from the motor shaft (2).
  6. Discard fan retaining clip (1).

  7. Object Number: 1284991  Size: SH
  8. Remove the fan (1) from the motor (2).

  9. Object Number: 1284993  Size: SH
  10. Remove the fan motor screws from the fan shroud.
  11. Remove the fan motor from the fan shroud.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1284993  Size: SH
  1. Install the fan motor to the fan shroud.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the fan motor screws to the fan shroud.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 8 N·m (71 lb in).

  5. Install the fan (1) to the motor (2).

  6. Object Number: 1284988  Size: SH
  7. Align the scribe marks (3) previously made on the fan (2) hub and the motor shaft (1).

  8. Object Number: 1284989  Size: SH

    Important: Ensure that the scribe marks remain aligned during fan retaining clip (1) installation.

  9. Install a new fan retaining clip (1) to the motor shaft (2). Ensure the retaining clip (1) is fully seated.
  10. Install the cooling fan and shroud to the vehicle. Refer to Cooling Fan and Shroud Replacement .
