For the 2006 model year, a new clutch plate material was released for production for the Direct, 2nd, Coast, Forward and Reverse plate assemblies.
The 2nd and Direct clutch plate assemblies require a new 2006 powertrain software calibration. The Coast, Forward and Reverse Clutch plate assemblies do not require this calibration.
Refer to your GMSPO Parts Catalog for application usage.
The previous Input Clutch Sprag Assembly (515) used a metal cage design with a lip on the top of the sprag and drag clips.
The current/new Input Clutch Sprag Assembly (515) uses a plastic cage design with four notches on the top of the sprag and drag bumps.
The sprag assembly on the left shows the previous metal cage design that incorporates a lip (1) on top of the sprag and the drag clips (4) on the outside of the cage.
The sprag assembly on the right shows the current/new design that incorporates four notches (2) on top of the sprag and the drag bumps (3) on the outside of the cage.
Remove the sprag end caps (514) in order to locate the position of the notches on the sprag cage.
Important:
• When installing the current/new design Input Clutch Sprag Assembly (515), the four notches must face upward. • The previous and current Input Clutch Sprag Assemblies (515) are interchangeable for service.
When installing the sprag clutch (515) into the sprag outer race, install the four notches up and the flat side down. Refer to Direct/Coast Clutch, Reaction Carrier Assemble (SI Document ID 1646546).
