Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Replacement Sensor 1

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 1237580  Size: SH
  1. Drain the coolant to a level below the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  2. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector from the ECT sensor.
  3. Remove the ECT sensor and O-ring seal.

Installation Procedure

Important: Clean out the sensor hole with a tap in order to remove any thread sealant residue. Clean any sealant residue from the old sensor and apply sealant to the threads if the old sensor is being reused.

  1. Apply thread sealant SA P/N 21485277, Loctite 242® Threadlocker, or equivalent to the sensor threads.
  2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  3. Install the NEW ECT sensor with a new O-ring.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the sensor to 18 N·m (13 lb ft).

  5. Connect the engine wiring harness electrical connector to the ECT sensor.
  6. Fill the cooling system to the proper level. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 1872506  Size: SH
  1. Drain the coolant to a level below the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  2. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (1) from the ECT sensor.
  3. Remove the ECT sensor (2) and O-ring seal (3).

Installation Procedure

Important: Clean out the sensor hole with a tap in order to remove any thread sealant residue. Clean any sealant residue from the old sensor and apply sealant to the threads if the old sensor is being reused.

  1. Apply thread sealant SA P/N 21485277, Loctite 242® Threadlocker, or equivalent to the sensor threads.
  2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  3. Install the NEW ECT sensor (2) with a new O-ring (3).
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the sensor to 18 N·m (13 lb ft).

  5. Connect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (1) to the ECT sensor.
  6. Fill the cooling system to the proper level. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
