Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. Remove the propeller shaft. Refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement .

  3. Object Number: 1227168  Size: SH
  4. Remove the drain plug to drain the transfer case oil.
  5. Remove the exhaust crossunder pipe. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Pipe Replacement .

  6. Object Number: 1234244  Size: SH
  7. Remove the vent tube clamp .
  8. Remove the vent tube from the transfer case.

  9. Object Number: 1228497  Size: SH
  10. Remove the transfer case.
  11. Notice: During removal of the transfer case/output shaft, do not use excessive force or damage to the bushings may occur.

  12. Remove the transfer case from the transaxle .

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the transfer case to the transaxle.
  2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1228497  Size: SH
  3. Install the transfer case bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 51 N·m (38 lb ft).


    Object Number: 1234244  Size: SH
  5. Install the vent hose and the clamp to the transfer case.
  6. Install the exhaust crossunder pipe. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Pipe Replacement .
  7. Install the propeller shaft. Refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement .

  8. Object Number: 1227157  Size: SH
  9. Remove the transfer case check plug and fill the transfer case with the specified synthetic gear oil. Refer to Transfer Case Fluid Drain and Fill .
  10. Install the check plug and gasket to the case.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the check plug to 44 N·m (33 lb ft).

  12. Lower the vehicle.
