Subject:Information on Torquing the 36 Volt Positive Battery Cable Nut

Models:2007 Saturn Vue Greenline Hybrid
with 2.4L Engine (VIN Z - RPO LAT)

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

If a side load is placed on the 36 Volt Positive Battery Cable Nut when torquing it, or if it is over-torqued, the related stud may break, which will require replacement of the complete 36 Volt Battery Pack due to the existing parts restriction on this battery.

Recommendation/Instructions:

To prevent this concern from occurring, the 36 Volt Positive Battery Cable Nut must be finger-started to avoid cross-threading. Once the nut is started, it should be torqued to 15 N·m (11 lb ft) while ensuring that the torque wrench remains square on the nut to prevent a side load.

Important:  As mentioned in 06-06-03-007, the 36 Volt Positive Battery Cable Nut may require replacement if the vehicle was manufactured before 7/15/2006. Please refer to 06-06-03-007 for more details.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
