Perform the transmission adaptive learn and transmission neutral learn procedure after any of the following service procedures:
• | Transmission Control Module (TCM) replacement |
• | Control valve body replacement |
Transmission Neutral Learn
- With the vehicle in park "P" and ignition "OFF" set the parking brake and block the tires.
- Turn the ignition switch to the "ACC" position.
- Release the shift lock and place the transmission shift lever in the neutral "N" position.
- Turn the ignition to the "OFF" position.
- Remove the shift cable from the transaxle range switch lever. Refer to
Shift Control Cable Replacement
.
- Verify the two arrows on the TCM are aligned.
- Install the shift cable on the transaxle range switch lever.
- Turn the ignition to "ON", do not start the vehicle.
- Using a scan tool implement the N-position adaptive learn.
- If N-position adaptation is okay go to step 14.
- If N-position adaptation does not learn go back to step 5.
- If N-position adaptation sets a DTC, clear DTC and go to step 5.
- If still cannot learn N-position after three times replace the TCM.
- Shift the transmission to park "P".
- Turn ignition "OFF".
- Wait 15 seconds.
- Turn ignition "ON".
- Verify the shift lever indicator aligns in all gear positions.
- If they do not align, refer to
Shift Control Cable Adjustment
.
- Clear all TCM DTC's.
- Turn ignition "OFF".
- Wait 15 seconds.
- Start the engine.
- Confrim that all TCM DTC's are clear.
- Roadtest vehicle to confirm gear shift positions.
Important: Perform all steps of the adaptive learn procedure. Repeat the steps as many times as indicated. Engine flare during shifting or harsh shifts will occur if not done correctly. When performing the up/down shifting during
2-3 and 3-4 up-shifts, small shift flare may occur the first or second time depending on transaxle internal tolerances.
- Drive the vehicle to warm the transaxle fluid until 65-110°C (150-230°F). The adaptive learn procedure will not work unless transaxle fluid is the correct temperature.
- Reset the transaxle adaptive learns using a scan tool. Go to the Transmission Special Functions then Trans. Output Controls menu and select Reset Transmission Adapts.
- Perform the following steps for the garage shifts adaptive learn.
28.1. | Apply the parking brake and the foot brake. |
28.2. | Shift from NEUTRAL to REVERSE and keep in REVERSE for 3 seconds. |
28.3. | Shift from REVERSE to NEUTRAL. |
28.4. | Repeat the above two steps five times. |
28.5. | Shift from NEUTRAL to DRIVE and keep in DRIVE for 3 seconds. |
28.6. | Shift from DRIVE to NEUTRAL. |
28.7. | Repeat the above two steps five times. |
- Perform the following steps for the Up/Down shifting adaptive learn.
29.1. | Drive the vehicle in DRIVE with light (15-20 percent) throttle until above 50 km/h (31 mph) in 4th gear. If vehicle is not connected to a scan tool and throttle percentage can not be observed, take 30 seconds for
reaching the 50 km/h (31 mph). |
29.2. | If vehicle is not connected to a scan tool and throttle percentage can not be observed, take 30 seconds for reaching the 50 km/h (31 mph). |
29.3. | Decelerate and apply the brakes until vehicle comes to a stop. Brake the vehicle so that it takes at least 14 seconds. |
29.4. | Repeat the above steps five times. |
- Perform the following steps for 2-1 Manual down shift adaptive learn.
30.1. | Drive the vehicle in M or "Tap 2" until over 25 km/h (16 mph) in 2nd with any throttle position. |
30.2. | Decelerate, shift from "Tap 2" to "Tap 1" manually and stop the vehicle. |
30.3. | Repeat the two steps ten times. |
Important: If shift quality does not improve, ensure the TCM has the correct transmission calibration.
- Confirm shift quality.
