Removal Procedure
  1. Disconnect the rack and pinion outer tie rods from the steering knuckles. Refer to Rack and Pinion Outer Tie Rod End Replacement .
  2. Remove the intermediate steering shaft lower bolt. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement .
  3. Place drain pans under the vehicle as needed.

  4. Remove the transaxle mount bolt (1).

    5. Object Number: 1819476 Size: SH
  5. Remove the transaxle mount bolts (1) and position the transaxle mount aside.

    6. Object Number: 1819480 Size: SH

    Important: Do not reuse the old O-Ring seals.

  6. Disconnect the power steering gear inlet hose (2) and the power steering cooler hose (1) from the power steering gear.

    7. Object Number: 1819491 Size: SH
  7. Remove the power steering gear hoses bracket bolt (1).

    8. Object Number: 1858265 Size: SH
  8. Remove the power steering gear bolts (1).
  9. Remove the power steering gear through the left wheel house area.
  10. Transfer any parts as needed.

Installation Procedure
  1. Position the power steering gear into the vehicle through the left wheel house area.

    2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1858265 Size: SH
  2. Install the power steering gear bolts (1).

    3. Tighten
    Tighten to 110 N·m (81 lb ft).


    Object Number: 1819491 Size: SH
  3. Install the power steering gear hoses bracket bolt (1).

    4. Tighten
    Tighten to 9 N·m (80 lb in).


    Object Number: 1819480 Size: SH

    Important: New O-Ring seals must be used to avoid potential leaks.

  4. Connect the power steering gear inlet hose (2) and the power steering fluid cooler hose (1) to the power steering gear.

    5. Tighten
    Tighten to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  5. Install the transaxle mount and transaxle mount bolts (1).

    6. Tighten
    Tighten to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  6. Install the transaxle mount bolt (1).

    7. Tighten
    Tighten to 110 N·m (81 lb ft).

  7. Clean any excess fluid from the vehicle and remove the drain pans.
  8. Install the intermediate steering shaft lower bolt. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement .
  9. Connect the rack and pinion outer tie rods to the steering knuckles. Refer to Rack and Pinion Outer Tie Rod End Replacement .
  10. Fill and bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
  11. Adjust the front toe. Refer to Front Toe Adjustment .
