Removal Procedure
- Lock the steering column in the centered position with the wheels straight forward.
- Remove the left side engine splash shield. Refer to
Engine Splash Shield Replacement - Left Side
.
- Remove the intermediate steering shaft lower bolt (1). Discard the bolt.
- Separate the intermediate steering shaft seal from the body panel pass through.
- Separate the intermediate steering shaft from the power steering gear and collapse it into its shortest position.
- Remove the driver knee bolster reinforcement. Refer to
Driver Knee Bolster Reinforcement Replacement
.
- Remove the intermediate steering shaft bolt (1) and nut (2).
Important: Place scribe marks on the intermediate steering shaft to the steering column connection prior to removal.
- Separate the intermediate steering shaft from the steering column.
- Remove the intermediate steering shaft through the vehicle interior.
Installation Procedure
Important: If a new intermediate steering shaft is being installed transfer the position of the alignment marks from the old component to the same location on the new component. Failure to transfer the alignment marks may result
in an off-center steering wheel after installation.
- Install the intermediate steering shaft through the vehicle interior.
- Connect the intermediate steering shaft to the steering column.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Install the intermediate steering shaft bolt (1) and nut (2).
Tighten
Tighten the bolt and nut to 34 N·m (25 lb ft).
- Install the driver knee bolster reinforcement. Refer to
Driver Knee Bolster Reinforcement Replacement
.
- Connect the intermediate steering shaft to the power steering gear.
- Install a new intermediate steering shaft lower bolt (1).
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 34 N·m (25 lb ft).
- Seat the intermediate steering shaft seal into the body panel pass through.
- Install the left side engine splash shield. Refer to
Engine Splash Shield Replacement - Left Side
