Removal Procedure
Caution: Refer to Safety Glasses Caution in the Preface section.

- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the VehicleLifting
and Jacking the Vehicle.
- Remove the front wheel. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and InstallationTire and
Wheel Removal and Installation.
- Remove the tie rod end. Refer to
Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod ReplacementSteering

Important: Note the number of turns required to remove
the tie rod end lock nut (5).
- Remove the tie rod end lock nut (5) from the tie rod (3).
Important: The tie rod boot to tie rod retaining clamp
(4) is a single use part and must be discarded after removal.
- Remove the tie rod boot to tie rod retaining clamp (4).
Discard
the clamp.
Important: The tie rod boot to steering gear housing
clamp (1) is a single use part and must be discarded after removal.
- Remove the tie rod boot to steering gear housing clamp (1).
Discard
the clamp.
- Remove the tie rod boot (2) from the tie rod (3).
Installation Procedure
- Install the tie rod boot (2) to the tie rod (3).
- Install the NEW tie rod boot to steering gear housing clamp (1).
- Install the NEW tie rod boot to tie rod retaining clamp (4).
Important: The tie rod end lock nut (5) must be installed
rotating the same number of turns as recorded during removal and aligned with the
mark previously made on the tie rod (3).
- Install the tie rod end lock nut (5) to the tie rod (3).
- Install the tie rod end. Refer to

- Install the front wheel. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and InstallationTire and
Wheel Removal and Installation.
- Remove the safety stands.
- Lower the vehicle to the ground.
- Bounce the vehicle several times to settle the suspension.
- Check and adjust the wheel alignment. Refer to
Wheel Alignment MeasurementWheel
Alignment Measurement.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Tighten the tie rod end lock nut (5).
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 170 N·m (125 lb ft).
