Rear Quarter Trim Panel Replacement coupe
Removal Procedure
Important: The illustration shows the right rear door of an Oldsmobile coupe. The
left rear door, and all rear doors of the Pontiac and the Buick coupes are
similar.
- Remove the rear seatback and the rear seat cushion. Refer to the following
procedures in Seats:
- Remove the carpet retainer. Refer to
Carpet Retainer Replacement

- Remove the windshield side upper garnish molding. Refer to
Garnish Molding Replacement - Upper
.
- Remove the quarter trim panel screw (2).
- Remove the quarter trim panel (1) by grasping the panel
and pulling inboard. This will disengage the fasteners (3) from the
retainers (4).
- Remove the seatbelt from the slit in the quarter trim panel.
Installation Procedure
- Install the seatbelt through the slit in the
quarter trim panel (1).
- Install the quarter trim panel by aligning the fasteners (3)
to the retainers (4). Apply sufficient pressure to the panel in order
to fully seat the fasteners.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the quarter
trim panel screw (2).
Tighten
Tighten the screw to 1.5 N·m (13.2 lb in).
- Install the windshield side upper molding by starting at the rear
top of the body lock pillar. Engage the tabs on the molding to the clips on
the body. Refer to

- Install the carpet retainer. Refer to
Carpet Retainer Replacement
.
- Install the rear seat cushion and the rear seatback. Refer to
the following procedures in Seats:
