Did you review the Wiper/Washer System Description and Operation and perform the necessary inspections?

  1. Disconnect wiper/washer switch connector.
  2. Set the wiper switch to DELAY.
  3. Measure the resistance through wiper/washer switch connector from ACCY terminal to the wiper speed input terminal with a DMM set to the Ohms scale.
  4. Move the wiper switch through the entire delay range.

Does the resistance vary within the specified range?

39 kohms to 680 kohms

Replace the wiper/washer switch. Refer to Multifunction, Turn Signal, and Hazard Switch Replacement - On Vehicle .

Did you complete the replacement?

  1. Reconnect the wiper/washer switch connector.
  2. Disconnect the wiper motor connector.
  3. Turn the ignition ON.
  4. Set the wiper switch to HI.
  5. Measure the voltage from the wiper speed input circuit to a good ground.

Does the voltage measure within the specified range?

10.5-15.5 V

Repair the open in the Wiper Speed Input circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the wiper motor. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

  1. Turn the ignition ON.
  2. Set the wiper switch to HI.

Do the wipers operate?

Set the wiper switch to the next-higher sensitivity position (towards OFF).

  1. Set the wiper switch to the highest sensitivity level (towards OFF).
  2. Move the wiper switch to the second highest sensitivity position (one position away from OFF).

  1. Disconnect the connector from the outside moisture sensor.
  2. Connect a test light between the outside moisture sensor connector (harness side)ground and ignition positive voltage terminals.

Connect a test light between outside moisture sensor connector (harness side), ignition positive voltage, and ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

  1. Disconnect the wiper motor connector.
  2. Test the sensor signal 2 circuit for an open.Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Check for unclean glass or a clouded outside moisture sensor attachment. If windshield is clean and adhesive tape is not clouded, replace the outside moisture sensor module. Refer to Windshield Outside Moisture Sensor Replacement .

Move the wiper switch from the fourth highest sensitivity position to the fifth highest sensitivity position

Test the the Sensor Signal 1 circuit for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

If the problem persists replace the outside moisture sensor. Refer to Windshield Outside Moisture Sensor Replacement .
