Removal Procedure

J 24319-B Universal Steering Linkage Puller


    Object Number: 105023  Size: SH
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the wheel and tire.
  3. Loosen the pinch bolt.
  4. Remove the cotter pin and slotted hex nut.

  5. Object Number: 104996  Size: SH
  6. Using J 24319-B separate the adjustment link form the knuckle.
  7. Remove the outer adjustment link from the inner adjustment noting the number of turns for assembly reference.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 105023  Size: SH
  1. Install the outer adjustment link to the inner adjustment link the same number of turns as removal.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the outer adjustment link to the control arm.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the nut 10 N·m (88 lb in) and an additional 3/4 turn. To align the cotter pin, tighten the nut no more than 1 flat.

  5. Install the cotter pin.
  6. Tighten the pinch bolt.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the pinch bolt to 48 N·m (35 lb ft).

  8. Lubricate the outer adjustment link.
  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the wheel nuts to 140 N·m (100 lb ft).

  11. Check toe adjustment. Refer to Rear Toe Adjustment in Wheel Alignment..
