DEFINITION: The brake sensor input of the EBTCM is normally grounded. The DIC will display the CHANGE BRAKE PADS message when there is an open in the circuit.

Inspect for wear in the brake pads. Refer to Brake Pad Inspection in Disc Brakes.

Did you find a worn brake pad?

  1. Disconnect the RH rear brake pad connector.
  2. Connect a fused jumper from the RH rear brake pad connector terminal A to a good ground.

Does the CHANGE BRAKE PADS message turn OFF?

  1. Disconnect the LH rear brake pad connector.
  2. Connect a fused jumper from the LH rear brake pad connector terminal A to a good ground.

Does the CHANGE BRAKE PADS message turn OFF?

  1. Disconnect the RH front brake pad connector.
  2. Connect a fused jumper from the RH front brake pad connector terminal A to a good ground.

Does the CHANGE BRAKE PADS message turn OFF?

  1. Disconnect the LH front brake pad connector.
  2. Connect a fused jumper from the LH front brake pad connector terminal A to a good ground.

  1. Disconnect the EBTCM connector.
  2. Connect the J 39700 universal pinout box using the J 39700-25 cable adapter to the EBTCM harness connector only.
  3. Disconnect the RH front brake pad connector.
  4. Use a J 39200 in order to measure the resistance from the J 39700 to the LH front brake pad connector terminal A.

Is the resistance less than the specified value?

2 ohms

  1. Disconnect the RH front brake pad connector.
  2. Use a J 39200 in order to measure the resistance from the LH front brake pad connector terminal B to the RH front brake pad connector terminal A.

Is the resistance less than the specified value?

2 ohms

  1. Disconnect the LH rear brake pad connector.
  2. Use a J 39200 in order to measure the resistance from the RH front brake pad connector terminal B to the LH rear brake pad connector terminal A.

Is the resistance less than the specified value?

2 ohms

  1. Disconnect the RH rear brake pad connector.
  2. Use a J 39200 in order to measure the resistance from the LH rear brake pad connector terminal B to the RH rear brake pad connector terminal A.

Is the resistance less than the specified value?

Use a J 39200 in order to measure the resistance from the RH rear brake pad connector terminal B to a good ground.

Is the resistance less than the specified value?
