Problem

Action

The ball joint is binding.

  1. Inspect the ball joint.
  2. Replace the ball joint as needed.

Refer to Lower Control Arm Ball Joint Replacement in Front Suspension.

The inner or the outer tie rods are bent or binding.

Replace as needed.

Refer to Steering Linkage Inner Tie Rod Replacement .

The front wheel alignment.

  1. Check the front wheel alignment.
  2. Perform front wheel alignment.

Refer to Wheel Alignment Measurement in Wheel Alignment.

The steering gear is loose.

Torque the steering gear to proper specifications.

Refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications .

The joints from the column to the steering gear are binding.

  1. Check for correct torque.
  2. Replace the components as needed.

Refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications in Steering Wheel and Column.

The plastic boot on the intermediate shaft is out of position.

  1. Inspect the plastic boot on the intermediate shaft.
  2. Replace if necessary.
