Was the Radio/Audio System Check performed?

  1. Perform the scan tool speaker test.
  2. Record which speaker(s) is dead or has intermittent, distorted or garbled sound.

Is only one speaker inoperative?

--

Go to Step 3

Go to Step 8

Remove and inspect the malfunctioning speaker.

Is any damage evident, such as cone damaged, connector damage, speaker frame bent, etc?

Go to Step 5

Go to Step 4

Substitute a known good speaker.

Is the inoperative speaker condition still present?

Go to Step 6

Go to Step 5

Replace damaged speaker. Refer to the following:

    •  Speaker Replacement
    •  Speaker Replacement
    •  Speaker Replacement
    •  Speaker Replacement

Is the replacement complete?

--

Go to Step 15

  1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
  2. Disconnect the appropriate radio amplifier connector.
  3. Inspect connectors for poor terminal contact and verify wiring.

Are the wiring and connectors OK?

Go to Step 13

Repair wiring or connectors as required.

Is repair complete?

Go to Step 15

Do all speakers on one side of the vehicle malfunction but the speakers on the other side of the vehicle are OK?

Go to Step 9

  1. Check the left channel CKT 511 (TAN), CKT 1947 (DK GRN) and CKT 2011 between the radio and radio amplifier.
  2. Check the right channel CKT 512 (LT GRN/BLK), CKT 1948 (LT GRN) and CKT 2012 between the radio and radio amplifier.

Is the wiring OK?

Repair the wiring between the radio and radio amplifier.

Is the circuit repair complete?

Go to Step 15

Install a known good amplifier in the vehicle.

Is the inoperative speaker condition still present?

Go to Step 14

Repeat steps 3 through 5 for all inoperative speakers.

Have all inoperative speakers and circuits been repaired?

Replace the radio amplifier. Refer to Radio Speaker Amplifier Replacement .

Is the replacement complete?

Replace the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement .

Is the replacement complete?

  1. Make sure any components removed during diagnosis are installed in place and that all connectors are connected.
  2. Repeat the system check. Refer to Radio/Audio System Check .

Is the system check complete?
