Important:

Before using the Symptom Tables in order to verify that all of the following are true:

•	There are no DTCs set.

•	The control module(s) can communicate via the serial data link.

Review the system operation in order to familiarize yourself with the system functions. Refer to Power Steering Pump Description or Power Steering Gear Description .

•	Inspect for aftermarket devices which could affect the operation of the power steering system.

•	Inspect the easily accessible or visible system components for obvious damage or conditions which could cause the symptom.

•	Inspect the power steering reservoir for the proper fluid level.

Refer to a symptom diagnostic procedure from the following list in order to diagnose the symptom:

•	Hissing Noise In Steering Gear

•	Rattle or Chuckle Noise in Steering Gear

•	Increase in Effort While Turning Steering Wheel

•	Steering Wheel Surges/Jerks While Turning

•	Steering Wheel Kickback

•	Foaming, Milky-Appearing Power Steering Fluid

•	Whine Noise in Steering Pump
