Important: The following steps must be completed before using the symptom tables.

  1. Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Audible Warnings before using the Symptom Tables in order to verify that all of the following are true:
  2. • There are no DTCs set.
    • The control module(s) can communicate via the serial data link.
  3. Review the system operation in order to familiarize yourself with the system functions. Refer to the following:
  4. •  Audible Warnings Description
    •  Audible Warnings Circuit Description

Visual/Physical Inspection

    • Inspect for aftermarket devices which could affect the operation of the audible warnings system. Refer to Checking Aftermarket Accessories in Wiring Systems.
    • Inspect the easily accessible or visible system components for obvious damage or conditions which could cause the symptom.

Intermittent

Faulty electrical connections or wiring may be the cause of intermittent conditions. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems.

Symptom List

Refer to a symptom diagnostic procedure from the following list in order to diagnose the symptom:

    • ABS Chime Always On or Inoperative. Refer to Diagnostic System Check - ABS in Antilock Brake System.
    • Brake Fluid Chime Always On. Refer to Brake Warning Indicator, Message, and Chime Always On in Hydraulic Brakes.
    • Brake Fluid Chime Inoperative. Refer to Brake Warning Indicator, Message, and Chime Always On in Hydraulic Brakes.
    • Door Ajar Chime Always On or Inoperative. Refer to Diagnostic System Check - Power Door Systems in Doors.
    • Engine Coolant Temperature Chime Always On or Inoperative. Refer to Diagnostic System Check in Engine Cooling.
    • Engine Oil Pressure Chime Always On. Refer to Engine Oil Pressure Indicator Always On .
    • Engine Oil Pressure Chime Inoperative. Refer to Engine Oil Pressure Indicator Inoperative .
    • Engine Overheated Chime Always On or Inoperative. Refer to Powertrain On Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check in Engine Controls - 4.6L.
    • Fasten Safety Belt Chime Always On. Refer to Fasten Safety Belt Indicator/Chime Always On in Seat Belts.
    • Fasten Safety Belt Chime Inoperative. Refer to Fasten Safety Belt Indicator/Chime Inoperative in Seat Belts.
    • Fuel Level Low Chime Always On or Inoperative. Refer to Fuel Gage Inaccurate or Inoperative .
    •  Key-in-Ignition Chime Inoperative
    •  Key-in-Ignition Chime On with Left Front Door Open, Key Not in Ignition
    • Lamps On Chime Always On or Inoperative. Refer to Diagnostic System Check - Lighting Systems in Lighting Systems.
    • Transaxle Hot Chime Always On or Inoperative. Refer to Powertrain On Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check in Engine Controls - 4.6L.
    • Turn Signal On Chime Always On or Inoperative. Refer to Diagnostic System Check - Lighting Systems in Lighting Systems.
    • Vehicle Stability Enhancement System (VSES) Chime Always On or Inoperative. Refer to Diagnostic System Check - ABS in Antilock Brake System.
