Was the Hydraulic Brake System Diagnostic Check performed?

Inspect the following power steering system components for contamination:

    • Power steering gear
    • Power steering pump
    • Hydraulic brake booster
    • Power steering hoses

Is the power steering system fluid contaminated?

Go to Step 3

Go to Step 4

  1. Flush the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Flushing in Power Steering.
  2. Replace the hydraulic brake booster. Refer to Power Brake Booster Replacement .

Is the repair complete?

--

Go to Step 6

Check the hydraulic brake booster to power steering pump hose for the following:

    • Leaks
    • Sharp bends
    • Restrictions

Do any of the above conditions exist?

Go to Step 5

System OK

Stop the leak or replace or reroute the hose. Refer to Locating Fluid Leaks or hose locations in Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Replacement - Off Vehicle and Steering Gear Replacement in Power Steering Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Verify proper brake system operation.
