Inspect the TURN-B/U fuse in the instrument panel (IP) fuse block.

Is the fuse open?

Go to Step 2

  1. Inspect the wiring harness for a short circuit and repair the wiring harness if necessary.
  2. Replace the TURN-B/U fuse.

Is the repair complete?

--

System OK

--

Connect a test lamp between the TURN-B/U fuse, cavity J5, and ground.

Did the test lamp light?

--

Go to Step 5

Go to Step 4

Repair the open in CKT 3 (PNK) between the IP fuse block and the ignition switch.

Is the repair complete?

--

System OK

--

  1. Remove the backup lamp(s).
  2. Connect a test lamp between the backup lamp socket and ground.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
  4. Place the transmission range selector control in reverse.

Did the test light illuminate?

--

Go to Step 6

Go to Step 7

Replace the backup lamp(s).

Is the repair complete?

--

System OK

--

  1. Disconnect the backup lamps switch connector.
  2. Connect a test lamp between terminal E of the backup lamps switch connector and ground.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.

Did the test light illuminate?

--

Go to Step 9

Locate and repair the open in the CKT 139 (PNK) between the IP fuse block and terminal E of the backup lamps switch connector.

Is the repair complete?

--

System OK

--

  1. Connect a fused jumper wire between terminal E and terminal B of the backup lamps switch connector.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.

Did the backup lamps illuminate?

--

Go to Step 10

Go to Step 11

Replace the backup lamps switch. Refer to Range Selector Replacement .

Is the repair complete?

--

System OK

Repair the open in CKT 24 (LT GRN) between the backup lamps switch and the backup lamp(s).

Is the repair complete?

--

System OK
