Inspect the ILLUM fuse in the fuse block.

  1. Place the headlamps switch in the park position.
  2. Turn the instrument panel (IP) dimmer switch to full brightness.
  3. Connect a test lamp from cavity E 3 at the ILLUM fuse to ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

  1. Disconnect the TR control connector.
  2. Connect a test lamp from cavity D of the TR control connector to ground.

  1. Connect the headlamps switch.
  2. Disconnect the IP lamps dimmer switch.
  3. Connect a test lamp from cavity A at the IP lamps dimmer switch connector to ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

  1. Disconnect the headlamps switch.
  2. Measure the resistance in CKT 9 (BRN) with a J 39200 digital multimeter between cavity A at the headlamps switch and cavity A at the IP lamps dimmer switch.

Is the resistance greater than the specified value?

1 ohms

Repair the open in CKT 9 (BRN) between the headlamps switch and the IP lamps dimmer switch.

Is the repair complete?

Measure the resistance in CKT 44 (DK GRN) betweeen the IP lamps dimmer switch and the fuse block with a J 39200 digital multimeter.

Is the resistance greater than the specified value?
