Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 22102 Seal Installer

    Caution: Before servicing any electrical component, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position and all electrical loads must be OFF, unless instructed otherwise in these procedures. If a tool or equipment could easily come in contact with a live exposed electrical terminal, also disconnect the negative battery cable. Failure to follow these precautions may cause personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable.

  2. Object Number: 72744  Size: SH
  3. Remove the fan shrouds from the radiator. Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement .
  4. Remove the drive belt form the vehicle. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  5. Raise the vehicle and support with safety stands. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  6. Object Number: 60256  Size: SH
  7. Remove the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement .
  8. Important: Use care as not to damage the engine front cover or the crankshaft sealing area when removing the crankshaft front cover oil seal.

  9. Remove the crankshaft front cover oil seal from the engine front cover.

Installation Procedure

Tools Required

J 22102 Seal Installer

  1. Coat the crankshaft front cover oil seal with clean engine oil.

  2. Object Number: 67878  Size: SH
  3. Use the J 22102 in order to install the crankshaft front cover oil seal.
  4. Remove the J 22102 from the crankshaft front cover oil seal.

  5. Object Number: 66720  Size: SH
  6. Install the crankshaft balancer to the crankshaft. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement .
  7. Remove the safety stands and lower the vehicle.
  8. Install the drive belt on the vehicle. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .

  9. Object Number: 72744  Size: SH
  10. Install the fan shrouds on the radiator. Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement .
  11. Connect the battery negative cable.
