Problem

Action

The bearing preload spring is missing/broken.

  1. Inspect the bearing preload spring. Refer to Turn Signal Cancel Cam and Steering Shaft Upper Bearing Spring Replacement .
  2. Replace as needed.

The centering spring in spheres is damaged or missing.

  1. Inspect the centering spring in the centering spheres by referencing Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing, and Jacket - Disassemble - Off Vehicle .
  2. Replace as needed by referencing Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing, and Jacket - Assemble - Off Vehicle .

Excessive clearance between holes in support or housing and pivot pin diameters.

  1. Inspect and clean components affected by performing Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing, and Jacket - Disassemble - Off Vehicle .
  2. Inspect and clean components affected by performing Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing, and Jacket - Assemble - Off Vehicle .

The support assembly screws are loose.

  1. Torque the support screws to proper specifications.
  2. Refer to Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing, and Jacket - Disassemble - Off Vehicle .

  3. Refer to Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing, and Jacket - Assemble - Off Vehicle for assembly.

The upper bearing inner race seat is missing.

Install upper bearing inner race seat.

Refer to Turn Signal Cancel Cam and Steering Shaft Upper Bearing Spring Replacement .

The upper bearing is not seated in housing.

  1. Inspect the upper bearing. Refer to Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing, and Jacket - Disassemble - Off Vehicle for disassembly:
