Abnormal or Excessive Tire Wear

Problem

Action

The front or rear wheel alignment is incorrect.

Perform an alignment. Refer to Front Caster and Camber Adjustment or Front Toe Adjustment or Rear Toe Adjustment Rear Camber Adjustment in Wheel Alignment.

The springs are broken or sagging.

Inspect and service as required. Refer to Front Transverse Spring Replacement in Front Suspension or Rear Transverse Spring Replacement in Rear Suspension.

Tires are improperly rotated.

Inspect tire(s) and/or replace as required. Refer to Tire Rotation in Tires and Wheels.

The vehicle is overloaded.

Reduce the vehicle load.

The tire or wheel is out-of-balance.

Balance as required.

Scuffed

Action

The tire pressure is low.

Inflate the tire(s) to proper specifications.

Refer to Tire Inflation Pressure Specifications in Maintenance and Lubrication.

The toe is incorrect.

  1. Check the toe.
  2. Perform an alignment.

Refer to Rear Toe Adjustment or Front Toe Adjustment in Wheel Alignment.

The control arm is bent or twisted.

Replace as needed.

Refer to Upper Control Arm Replacement or Lower Control Arm Replacement in Front Suspension or Rear Axle Upper Control Arm Replacement or Rear Axle Lower Control Arm Replacement in Rear Suspension.
