HUD Image Does Not Dim

Were you sent here from the IPC System Check?

Go to Step 2

Go to Diagnostic System Check - Instrument Cluster

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Move the head-up display dimmer switch to the full bright position.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.

Do all segments of the head-up display illuminate for 3.5 seconds?

Go to Step 3

Go to Head Up Display (HUD) Inoperative

Move the head-up display dimmer switch DOWN to dim the head-up display image.

Does the head-up display image dim?

--

Go to Step 4

Go to Step 5

  1. Move the HUD dimmer switch to the High position.
  2. Cover the ambient light sensor located on the HUD display with a dark fabric.
  3. Wait 5 seconds.

Does the HUD image dim with the ambient light sensor covered?

System OK

Go to Step 8

Disconnect the head-up display switch connector.

Is the head-up display image OFF?

--

Go to Step 9

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Reconnect or install any connectors or components that were disconnected or removed.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Move the head-up display dimmer switch to the full bright position
  5. Move the head-up display dimmer switch DOWN to dim the head-up display image.

Does the head-up display image dim?

System OK

Test the head up display switch circuit for a short to ground, short to voltage, or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs
