Did you perform the Body Rear End Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Open the trunk.
  2. Turn ON the ignition with the engine off.
  3. Depress the disable switch on the rear compartment occupant sensor for 2 seconds.

Does the trap alert system disable?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

  1. Disconnect the rear compartment occupant sensor connector.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the ignition 0 voltage circuit and a good ground.

Did the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 4

Connect a test lamp between the ignition 0 voltage circuit and the sensor ground.

Did the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 5

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the rear compartment occupant sensor. Refer to Circuit Testing and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 9

Repair the open or high resistance of the ignition 0 voltage circuit of the rear compartment occupant sensor. Refer to Circuit Testing and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the open or high resistance of the ground circuit of the rear compartment occupant sensor. Refer to Circuit Testing and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 9

Replace the rear compartment occupant sensor. Refer to Sensor Replacement - Rear Compartment Occupant Presence .

Did you complete the replacement?

Go to Step 9

Operate the system under the conditions for setting the DTC in order to verify the repair.
