Use a scan tool to operate the trunk release.

Does the trunk release operate properly?

Important: Inspect that the keyless entry transmitter is the correct model for the vehicle remote system. A wrong model transmitter may pass this test, but will not activate the vehicle remote system.

  1. Turn on the J 43241 Keyless Entry Tester.
  2. Place the transmitter on the J 43421 test pad.
  3. Press each button of the transmitter one at a time.

Does a tone sound and the green light illuminate on the J 43421 after each button is pressed?

Do any of the buttons on the transmitter sound the tone and illuminate the green light when pressed?

Replace the transmitter battery. Refer to Transmitter Battery Replacement .

Did you complete the replacement?

  1. Turn on the J 43241 Keyless Entry Tester.
  2. Place the transmitter on the J43421 test pad.
  3. Press each button of the transmitter one at a time.

Does a tone sound and the green light illuminate on the J43421 after each button is pressed?

Replace the transmitter.

Operate the transmitter within range of the vehicle.

Important: All transmitters which are to be recognized by the Remote Control Door Lock Receiver (Omron Module) must be programmed in a single programming sequence. If the system is placed in program mode it will erase all previously programmed transmitters upon the receipt of the programming signal from the first transmitter.

Perform the programming procedure. Refer to Transmitter Programming .

Do all of the Keyless Entry functions operate normally?

Using a scan tool, observe the status of the RFA Lock Request Input parameter of the body control module (BCM) while operating the lock button of the transmitter.

Does the value change from OFF to ON?

  1. Turn OFF the Ignition.
  2. Disconnect the Remote Control Door Lock Receiver (Omron Module).
  3. Probe the battery positive voltage circuit of the Remote Control Door Lock Receiver (Omron Module) with a test lamp that is connected to a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Connect a test lamp between the ground circuit of the Remote Control Door Lock Receiver (Omron Module) and the battery positive voltage circuit of the Remote Control Door Lock Receiver (Omron Module).

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the Remote Control Door Lock Receiver (Omron Module). Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
