Removal Procedure
Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing
any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to
the vehicle or its components.
- Disconnect
the negative battery cable.
Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:
• | Unnecessary SIR system repairs |
In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
• | Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring. |
• | If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System. |
- Disable
the SIR. Refer to
Disabling the SIR System
in SIR.
- Remove the instrument panel compartment from the vehicle. Refer
to
Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement
.
- Remove the 2 screws and set aside the hood release handle.
- Remove the passenger-side SIR module from the vehicle. Refer to
Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement
in SIR.
- Remove the console from the vehicle. Refer to
Console Replacement
.
- Remove the center trim bezel from the vehicle. Refer to
Instrument Panel Center Trim Panel Replacement
.
- Remove the radio from the vehicle. Refer to
Radio Replacement
in Entertainment.
- Remove the 4 screws
and the knee bolster trim panel.
- Gently pull the top portion of the knee bolster trim panel in
order to release 2 retainers.
- Remove the 2 bolts and the knee bolster (1) from
the instrument panel.
- Remove the steering column. Refer to
Steering Column Replacement
in Steering Wheel and Column-Standard.
- Remove the instrument panel cluster assembly. Refer to
Instrument Cluster Replacement
.
- Remove the heater control unit from the vehicle. Refer to
Control Assembly Replacement
in
HVAC.
- Disconnect the instrument panel harness electrical connectors.
- Remove the screw (1) that holds the left side of the instrument
panel support beam to the vehicle.
- Remove the screw on the bottom left side of the instrument panel.
- Remove the support beam
cover and the 2 bolts (2) on the left side of the instrument
panel (1).
- Remove the support beam cover and the 2 bolts (2) on the
right side of the instrument panel (1).
- Remove the left screws
and the right screws (1) at the bottom of the instrument panel compartment
support.
- Remove the 2 front
speaker grills (1) and the instrument panel upper center cover with
a flat-bladed screwdriver.
- Remove the front radio speakers. Refer to
Radio Front Speaker Replacement
in Entertainment.
- Remove the 3 instrument panel screws along the top of the
instrument panel.
- Pull the instrument panel from the support member.
- Remove the instrument panel from the vehicle.
- Remove the power mirror switch from the instrument panel, if equipped.

- Remove the instrument panel dimmer switch from the instrument
panel. Refer to
Instrument Panel Lamp Dimmer Switch Replacement

- Remove the rear defogger switch from the instrument panel, if
equipped. Refer to
Rear Window Defogger Switch Replacement
in Stationary Windows.
- Remove the cruise control switch from the instrument panel, if
equipped. Refer to
Cruise Control Switch Replacement
in Cruise Control.
- Remove the rear wiper/washer switch from the instrument panel,
if equipped. Refer to
Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement
in Wiper/Washer Systems.
- Remove the 4 defroster duct screws.
- Remove the defroster duct.
- Remove the side demister ducts.
- Remove the 2 center vent duct screws and the center vent
duct.
- Remove the 2 center vent louver screws and the center vent
louver.
- Remove the locking tab screw.
- Unclip the 2 locking tabs
- Remove the left vent louver.
- Unclip the 2 locking tabs and remove the right vent louver.
- Remove the 2 harness loop screws.
- Remove all of the harness loops.
- Remove the instrument panel wiring harness.
- Remove the 14 instrument panel screws and the instrument
panel support beam.
- Remove the instrument panel compartment striker screws and the
striker from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
- install the instrument panel compartment striker to the instrument
panel. Secure the striker with the screws.
- Install the instrument panel support beam. Secure the support
beam with the 14 screws.
- Install the instrument panel wiring harness. Secure the harness
with the 2 harness loop screws and the harness loops.
- Install the right vent louver by pushing the louver in until it
locks into place.
- Install the left vent louver. Secure the louver with the 1 screw.
- Install the center vent louver. Secure the louver with the 2 screws.
- Install the center vent duct. Secure the duct with the 2 side
demister duct screws.
- Install the side demister ducts to the defroster duct. Secure
the defroster duct to the instrument panel with the 4 screws.
- Install the rear wiper/washer switch to the instrument panel,
if equipped. Refer to

- Install the cruise control switch to the instrument panel, if
equipped. Refer to
Cruise Control Switch Replacement
in Cruise Control.
- Install the rear defogger switch to the instrument panel, if equipped.

- Install the instrument panel dimmer switch to the instrument panel.

- Install the power mirror switch to the instrument panel, if equipped.

- Install the instrument panel to the vehicle.
- Push the instrument panel in to the support member.
- Install the 3 screws along the top of the instrument panel.
- Install the front radio speakers. Refer to
Radio Front Speaker Replacement
in Entertainment.
- Install the 2 front
speaker grills (3).
- Install the instrument panel upper center cover.
- Install the left and the
right screws (1) at the bottom of the instrument panel compartment
support.
- Install the 2 right
side support beam bolts (2) and the cover.
- Install the 2 left side support beam bolts (2) and
the cover.
- Install the screw on the bottom left side of the instrument panel.
- Install the instrument panel support beam screw (1) at the left
side.
- Connect the instrument panel harness electrical connectors.
- Install the heater control
unit (3) to the instrument panel. Refer to
Control Assembly Replacement
in HVAC.
- Install the instrument cluster assembly to the instrument panel.

- Install the steering column. Refer to
Steering Column Replacement
in Steering Wheel and Column-Standard.
- Install the knee bolster (1)
to the instrument panel. Secure the knee bolster with the 2 bolts.
- Install the knee bolster trim panel (2). Secure the trim panel
with the 4 screws.
- Install the radio to the vehicle. Refer to
Radio Replacement
in Entertainment.
- Install the center trim
bezel (3). Refer to
Instrument Panel Center Trim Panel Replacement
.
- Install the console to the vehicle. Refer to
Console Replacement
.
- Install the passenger side SIR module. Refer to
Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement
in SIR.
- Install the hood release handle to the instrument panel. Secure
the handle with the 2 screws.
- Install the instrument panel compartment to the vehicle. Refer
to
Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement
.
- Enable the SIR. Refer to
Enabling the SIR System
in SIR.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
