Generator Replacement CS144 Generator
Removal Procedure
- Disconnect the negative cable from the battery terminal. Refer
to
Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing
any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to
the vehicle or its components.
in General Information.
- Remove the drive belt from generator. Refer to Engine Mechanical.
- Remove the windshield wiper system module cover. Refer to Section
8E.
- Remove the windshield wiper motor crank arm link from the wiper
motor and move aside. Refer to Section 8E.
- Position the wiper arms to a vertical position on windshield.
- Remove the engine mount strut bracket bolts and rotate engine
forward. Refer to Engine Mechanical.
- Disconnect the electrical connector from the generator.
- Remove the nut and battery positive lead from the generator output
(BAT) terminal.
- Remove the generator front brace. Refer to
Generator Brace Bracket Replacement
.
- Remove the generator rear brace. Refer to
Generator Rear Brace Replacement
.
- Remove the generator pivot bolt and nut from the generator.
- Place a floor jack at the center front of the frame.
- Remove the front frame bolts. Refer to Section 10-3.
- Lower the frame three inches.
- Remove the generator from the engine.
Installation Procedure
- Install the generator to the engine.
- Raise the frame using the floor jack.
- Install new front frame bolts. Refer to Section 10-3.
- Remove the floor jack.
- Install the generator pivot bolt to the generator.
Tighten
Tighten the generator pivot bolt to 50 N·m (37
lb ft).
- Install the generator rear brace. Refer to
Generator Rear Brace Replacement
.
- Install the generator front brace. Refer to
Generator Brace Bracket Replacement
.
- Install the battery positive lead to the generator output (BAT)
terminal with the nut.
Tighten
Tighten the battery positive lead (BAT) nut to 25 N·m
(18 lb ft).
- Connect the electrical connections to the generator.
- Rotate the engine rearward and install engine mount strut bracket
bolts. Refer to Engine Mechanical.
- Install the windshield wiper motor crank arm link to wiper motor.
Refer to Section 8E.
- Install the windshield wiper system module cover. Refer to Section
8E.
- Install the drive belt to the generator. Refer to Engine Mechanical.
- Connect the battery ground (negative) cable.

Removal Procedure

- Remove the generator mounting bracket from the engine. Refer to

- Remove the generator from the engine.
Installation Procedure
- Install the generator to the engine.
- Install the generator mounting bracket to the engine. Refer to
Generator Brace Bracket Replacement
- Install the generator pivot bolt to the generator.
Tighten
Tighten the generator pivot bolt to 50 N·m (37
lb ft).
- Install the generator rear brace. Refer to
Generator Rear Brace Replacement
.
- Install the generator front brace. Refer to
Generator Brace Bracket Replacement
.
- Install the battery positive lead to the generator output (BAT)
terminal with the nut.
Tighten
Tighten the battery positive lead (BAT) nut to 25 N·m
(18 lb ft).
- Connect the electrical connections to the generator.
- Rotate the engine rearward and install engine mount strut bracket
bolts. Refer to Engine Mechanical.
- Install the windshield wiper motor crank arm link to wiper motor.

- Install the windshield wiper system module cover. Refer to Section

- Install the drive belt to the generator. Refer to Engine Mechanical.
- Connect the battery ground (negative) cable.
