GM Service Manual Online
For 1990-2009 cars only

The audible warnings system informs the driver that one or more of the following conditions exist:

    • The exterior lights are on. Both of the following conditions are met:
       - The ignition switch is in any of the following positions:
   • LOCK
   • OFF
   • ACCY
       - The left front door is open.
    • The key is in the ignition switch. Both of the following conditions are met:
       - The ignition switch is in any of the following positions:
   • LOCK
   • OFF
   • ACCY
       - The left front door is open.
    • The safety belt is unbuckled. The ignition switch is in either of the following positions:
       - RUN
       - START
    • A turn signal is on. The vehicles travels over 1.2 km (3/4 mi).
    • You apply the park brake. The vehicle travels approximately 12 m (40 ft).

Module Power

Battery voltage is applied at all times on the following circuits to the body control module (MALL):

    • From CKT 640 (ORN/BLK) to connector C1 terminal H
    • From CKT 1540 (ORN) to connector C1 terminal G

With the ignition switch in RUN or with the ignition switch in START, ignition positive voltage is applied on CKT 39 (PNK) to module connector C2 terminal C13.

Lamps On Chime

The fast-pulsed lamps-on chime sounds when all of the following conditions are met:

    • The left front door is open.
    • The body control module (MALL) does not detect voltage at the lamps off input at one of the following circuits:
       - CKT 1785 (LT BLU) (Oldsmobile)
       - CKT 549 (PPL/WHT) (Buick)
    • No voltage is detected at CKT 39 (PNK).

Key-In-Ignition Chime

The key-in-ignition chime sounds under the following conditions:

    • The key is in the ignition switch.
    • The left front door is open.

When a key is in the ignition switch, the following conditions occur:

    • The key-in-ignition switch is closed.
    • A ground condition exists in CKT 80 (LT GRN)

When the left front door is open, the following conditions occur:

    • The left front door jamb switch is closed.
    • A ground condition exists in CKT 155 (BLK)

The medium pulsed key-in-ignition chime sounds under the following conditions:

    • When the body control module (MALL) detects a ground condition at both circuits.
    • There is no ignition positive voltage on CKT 39 (PNK).

Fasten Belts Chime

The fasten seat belts chime sounds when both of the following conditions are met:

    • The ignition switch is in either of the following positions:
       - RUN
       - START
    • The left front seat belt is unbuckled.

When the ignition switch is in RUN or the ignition switch is in START, ignition positive voltage is applied on CKT 39 (PNK) to the body control module (MALL). When you unbuckle the left front seat belt, the following conditions occur:

    • The seat belt switch closes.
    • A ground condition exists on CKT 238 (BLK/WHT).

The MALL commands the slow-pulsed fasten safety belt chime for 4-8 seconds when the following conditions occur:

    • When the MALL detects a ground condition on CKT 238 (BLK/WHT).
    • There is ignition positive voltage on CKT 39 (PNK).

When the above actions occur, the MALL applies voltage on CKT 234 (YEL) for 70 seconds. This action illuminates the FASTEN BELTS indicator.

Turn Signal On Chime (Buick)

When you turn on a turn signal, the following actions occur:

    • The body control module (MALL) detects voltage on CKT 16 (PPL).
    • The MALL begins to monitor the vehicle distance. The MALL monitors via vehicle speed sensor (VSS) input CKT 817 (DK GRN/WHT).

When the MALL module determines the vehicle has traveled 1.2 km (3/4 mi), the turn signal on chime sounds 4 times.

Turn Signal On Chime (Oldsmobile)

When you turn on a turn signal, the following actions occur:

    • The instrument cluster detects voltage on either of the following circuits:
       - CKT 14 (LT BLU) (left turn)
       - CKT 15 (DK BLU) (right turn)
    • The instrument cluster switches CKT 1845 (LT GRN) to ground.

When the body control module (MALL) detects a ground condition on CKT 1845 (LT GRN), the MALL begins to monitor the vehicle distance. The MALL monitors via vehicle speed sensor (VSS) input CKT 817 (DK GRN/WHT). When the MALL module determines the vehicle has traveled 1.2 km (3/4 mi), the turn signal on chime sounds 4 times.

Park Brake Chime
