Exhaust Manifold Replacement Right Side

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the air cleaner duct.
  2. Remove the acoustic engine cover. Refer to Acoustic Engine Cover Replacement
  3. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

    In General Information.
  4. Remove the coolant recovery reservoir. Refer to Coolant Recovery Reservoir in Engine Cooling.
  5. Remove the exhaust crossover pipe. Refer to Exhaust Crossover Replacement in Engine Exhaust.
  6. Remove the transaxle oil level indicator tube support brace bolt and tube. Refer to Transaxle Oil Level Indicator Tube Support Brace Bolt and Tube in Automatic Transmission.

  8. Disconnect the right rear spark plug wires. Refer to Spark Plug Wire Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  9. Remove the oxygen sensor electrical connector.
  10. Remove the engine mount strut. Refer to Engine Mount Strut Replacement .

  12. Remove the engine lift bracket from the manifold.
  13. Remove the spark plugs from the right (rear) bank. Refer to Spark Plug Replacement in Engine Electrical
  14. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Support in General Information
  15. Remove the front engine exhaust pipe. Remove the converter. Refer to Engine Exhaust Pipe in Engine Exhaust.
  16. Remove the engine mount from the frame nuts. Refer to Engine Mount Replacement .
  17. Lower the vehicle.
  18. Use a floor jack in order to support the engine at the right rear corner.
  19. Raise the engine.

  21. Remove the exhaust manifold retaining bolts.
  22. Remove the exhaust manifold.

Installation Procedure

    Important: Whenever the EGR pipe is removed from the right (rear) exhaust manifold, the outlet pipe should be inspected for leaks during installation. If leaks are present, replace the EGR adapter assembly.

  1. Install the exhaust manifold.
  2. Install the exhaust manifold bolts.
  3. Install the exhaust crossover at the manifold. Refer to Exhaust Crossover Replacement in Engine Exhaust.
  4. Loosely install the exhaust crossover nuts.
  5. Tighten the exhaust manifold bolts.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Lower the engine.
  8. Remove the floor jack.
  9. Raise the vehicle.
  10. Install the front exhaust pipe. Install the converter. Refer to Front Exhaust Pipe in Engine Exhaust.
  11. Install the engine mount to the frame nuts. Refer to Engine Mount Replacement .
  12. Lower the vehicle.
  13. Tighten the exhaust crossover. Refer to Exhaust Crossover Replacement in Engine Exhaust.

  15. Install the engine lift bracket
  16. Install the spark plugs.
  17. Install the oxygen sensor electrical connector.
  18. Install the transaxle oil level indicator. Refer to Automatic Transaxle Oil Level Indicator Replacement in Automatic Transmission.
  19. Install the spark plug wires. Refer to Ignition System in Engine Electrical.
  20. Install the coolant recovery reservoir. Refer to Coolant Recovery Reservoir in Engine Cooling.
  21. Install the battery negative cable.
  22. Install the acoustic engine cover. Refer to Acoustic Engine Cover Replacement
  23. Install the air cleaner duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Element

Exhaust Manifold Replacement Left Side

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the air cleaner duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Element
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to

  3. Remove the engine mount strut. Refer to Engine Mount Strut Replacement .
  4. Remove the right engine cooling fan. Refer to Engine Cooling Fan Removal in Cooling and Radiator.
  5. Remove the front to rear exhaust manifold connection and heat shields.
  6. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System in Cooling and Radiator.

  8. Remove the upper radiator hose at the intake manifold. Refer to Cooling and Radiator.
  9. Remove the acoustic engine cover. Refer to Acoustic Engine Cover Replacement
  10. Remove the EGR cover. Remove the EGR adapter to the upper intake manifold pipe. Remove the intake manifold pipe retaining bolt. Refer to Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve Replacement .
  11. Remove the EGR valve. Remove the EGR adapter. Remove the intake manifold pipe at the manifold. Refer to Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve Replacement .

  13. Remove the left engine lift hook.
  14. Remove the engine mount strut bracket at the cylinder head. Refer to Engine Mount Strut Bracket Replacement .
  15. Remove the oil level indicator tube and the indicator from the exhaust manifold. Refer to Oil Level Indicator and Tube Replacement .

  17. Remove the spark plug wires at the plugs and at the rocker cover.
  18. Remove the A/C compressor support brace from exhaust manifold stud. Refer to A/C Compressor in Heating, Ventilation and Air Condition.
  19. Remove the spark plugs. Refer to Spark Plug Wire in Engine Electrical.

  21. Remove the exhaust manifold bolts.
  22. Remove the exhaust manifold.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 35807  Size: SH
  1. Install the exhaust manifold.
  2. Loosely install the manifold bolts.
  3. Tighten the manifold bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

  5. Install the spark plugs. Refer to spark plug wire in Engine Electrical.
  6. Connect the A/C support bracket to the exhaust manifold stud. Refer to A/C Support Bracket in Heating, Ventilation and Air Condition.

  8. Connect the spark plug wires to the rocker cover and plugs.
  9. Install the oil level indicator tube. Refer to Oil Level Indicator and Tube Replacement .
  10. Install the oil level indicator. Refer to Oil Level Indicator and Tube Replacement .
  11. Install the engine mount strut bracket at the cylinder head. Refer to Engine Mount Strut Bracket Replacement .
  12. Install the engine lift hook.
  13. Install the EGR valve. Refer to Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve Replacement
  14. Install the EGR adapter. Refer to Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve Replacement .
  15. Install the EGR adapter to the upper intake manifold pipe. Refer to Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve Replacement
  16. Install the acoustic engine cover. Refer to Acoustic Engine Cover Replacement
  17. Connect the upper radiator hose to the intake manifold. Refer to Radiator Hose Replacement in Engine Cooling
  18. Refill the coolant. Refer to Cooling and Radiator.
  19. Install the front to rear exhaust manifold connection and heat shields.
  20. Install the right engine cooling fan. Refer to Engine Cooling Fan Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  21. Install the engine mount strut. Refer to Engine Mount Strut Replacement .
  22. Connect the battery negative cable.
  23. Install the air cleaner duct . Refer to Air Cleaner Element in Engine Controls.
