Rear Door Energy Absorber Pad Replacement Trim Panel
Removal Procedure
Caution: This vehicle has energy-absorbing foam blocks for side impact protection.
To help avoid personal injury in a collision, foam blocks that are damaged,
or removed during repairs must be replaced. Failure to replace foam blocks
that are removed can violate federal law.
- Remove the rear door trim panel. Refer to

- Remove the retainers from the energy absorber pad.
- Remove the energy absorber pad from the trim panel.
Installation Procedure
- Remove the protective tape from the adhesive strips on the back
side of the energy absorber pad.
Important: Clean the trim panel with oil-free naphtha or alcohol.
- Install the energy absorber pad to the rear door trim panel.
Press firmly until the pad is fully seated.
- Install the retainer to the energy absorber pad.
- Install the trim panel. Refer to

- Open the rear door.
- Remove the door trim panel. Refer to

- Remove the water deflector. Refer to

.
Important: Mark the location of the energy absorber pad in relation to the impact
bar.
- Remove the plastic clip
from the energy absorber pad.
- Warm the outer door body panel with a heat lamp or a heat gun
to a minimum of 21°C (70°F).
- Pull the energy absorber pad from the rear door.
Installation Procedure
- Remove the protective tape from the adhesive strips on the back
side of the energy absorber pad.
- Install the plastic clip to the energy absorber pad.
Important: The energy absorber pad must be flush against the door outer panel.
- Install the energy absorber
pad to the door.
Pressing firmly until the pad is fully seated.
