Rear Door Energy Absorber Pad Replacement Trim Panel

Removal Procedure

    Caution: This vehicle has energy-absorbing foam blocks for side impact protection. To help avoid personal injury in a collision, foam blocks that are damaged, or removed during repairs must be replaced. Failure to replace foam blocks that are removed can violate federal law.

  1. Remove the rear door trim panel. Refer to Rear Side Door Trim Panel Replacement .
  2. Remove the retainers from the energy absorber pad.
  3. Remove the energy absorber pad from the trim panel.

Installation Procedure

  1. Remove the protective tape from the adhesive strips on the back side of the energy absorber pad.
  2. Important: Clean the trim panel with oil-free naphtha or alcohol.

  3. Install the energy absorber pad to the rear door trim panel.
  4. Press firmly until the pad is fully seated.

  5. Install the retainer to the energy absorber pad.
  6. Install the trim panel. Refer to Rear Side Door Trim Panel Replacement .

Removal Procedure

  1. Open the rear door.
  2. Remove the door trim panel. Refer to Rear Side Door Trim Panel Replacement .
  3. Remove the water deflector. Refer to Rear Side Door Water Deflector Replacement .
  4. Important: Mark the location of the energy absorber pad in relation to the impact bar.

  5. Remove the plastic clip from the energy absorber pad.
  6. Warm the outer door body panel with a heat lamp or a heat gun to a minimum of 21°C (70°F).
  7. Pull the energy absorber pad from the rear door.

Installation Procedure

  1. Remove the protective tape from the adhesive strips on the back side of the energy absorber pad.
  2. Install the plastic clip to the energy absorber pad.
  3. Important: The energy absorber pad must be flush against the door outer panel.

  4. Install the energy absorber pad to the door.
  5. Pressing firmly until the pad is fully seated.

  6. Install the water deflector. Refer to Rear Side Door Water Deflector Replacement .
  7. Install the door trim panel. Refer to Rear Side Door Trim Panel Replacement .
