Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 6627-A Wheel Bolt Remover

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.

  3. Object Number: 156924  Size: SH
  4. Remove the brake caliper and bracket. Refer to Rear Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement in Disc Brakes.
  5. Remove the rotor (3). Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement in Disc Brakes.
  6. Use the J 6627-A (2) to extract the wheel hub bolt from the hub (1).
  7. Clean the wheel hub flange and clean the rotor of any corrosion, metal chips or foreign material.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 65317  Size: SH
  1. Install the replacement bolt in the wheel hub (3).
  2. Add enough washers (1) to draw the bolt into the hub.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

    Important: Seat the wheel bolt fully against the hub flange.

  4. Install a wheel nut with the flat side to the washers.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the wheel nut until the wheel bolt head seats against the hub flange.

  6. Back off the wheel nut.
  7. Remove the washers.
  8. Install the brake rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement in Disc Brakes.
  9. Install the brake caliper and bracket. Refer to Rear Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement in Disc Brakes.
  10. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  11. Lower the vehicle.
