Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the instrument panel carrier. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
  2. Remove the brake pedal . Refer to Brake Pedal Replacement .
  3. Remove the brake booster. Refer to Power Vacuum Brake Booster Replacement .

  4. Object Number: 179293  Size: SH
  5. Remove the brake pedal reinforcement bracket mounting nuts from the front of the dash.
  6. Remove the brake pedal reinforcement bracket.
  7. Inspect all parts for wear. Repair or replace the components as needed.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 179279  Size: SH
  1. Install the brake pedal reinforcement bracket.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the brake pedal reinforcement bracket mounting nuts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the mounting nuts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  5. Install the brake booster. Refer to Power Vacuum Brake Booster Replacement .
  6. Install the brake pedal . Refer to Brake Pedal Replacement .
  7. Install the instrument panel carrier. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
  8. Adjust the stoplamp switch. Refer to Stop Lamp Switch Adjustment .
