Removal Procedure

J 38778 Door Trim Pad and Garnish Clip Remover

  1. Remove the inside door handle bezel and disconnect the electric door lock switch. Refer to Door Inside Handle Bezel Replacement .
  2. Remove the power window switch and rear view mirror switch. Refer to Front Side Door Window Switch Replacement
  3. Remove the cover and then the two screws in the door pull handle.
  4. Starting at the bottom of the trim panel, use J 38778 to remove the 11 clips (including one behind the triangular piece by the rear view mirror) on the door trim panel.
  5. Disconnect the radio speaker wire.
  6. Remove the trim panel from the door.

Installation Procedure

  1. Important: Before installing the door trim panel to the door, the old trim panel retainers MUST be discarded and replaced with NEW retainers. If NEW retainers are not used, the trim panel will not be properly secured to the door.

  2. Install the new trim panel retainers on the trim panel.
  3. Position the trim panel by the door.
  4. Install the speaker electrical connector.
  5. Hang the trim panel on the door starting at the top.
  6. Press the trim panel to secure the fasteners into the door.
  7. Install the power window switch and rear view mirror switch. Refer to Front Side Door Window Switch Replacement
  8. Install the handle bezel. Refer to Door Inside Handle Bezel Replacement
  9. Install the two screws in the door pull handle.
  10. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  11. Install the pull handle screws.
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the pull handle screws to 3 N·m (27 lb in).

  13. Install the pull handle screw cover.
