Removal Procedure
- Remove the right valve
rocker arm covers and gaskets. Refer to
Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement
- Remove the lower intake manifold and gaskets. Refer to
Intake Manifold Replacement
.
Important: Keep all of the valve train parts in order. Reinstall the valve train
parts in their original locations and with the same mating surfaces as when
removed.
- Remove the rocker arms, pushrods, and the pedestals. Refer to
Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement
.
- Remove the valve guide retainer bolts.
- Remove the valve guide retainer.
- Remove the valve lifter guides.
- Remove the valve lifters.
- Clean and inspect the following components:
• | All gasket surfaces (with degreaser) |
• | Valve lifters (for wear) |
Installation Procedure
- Dip the valve lifters
in prelube GM P/N 12345501 or the equivalent.
- Install the valve lifters.
- Install the valve lifter guides.
- Install the valve guide retainer.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the valve
guide retainer bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the valve guide retainer bolts to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).
- Install the valve rocker arms, pushrods, and the pedestals. Refer
to
Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement
.
- Install the lower intake manifold and gaskets. Refer to
Intake Manifold Replacement
.
- Install the valve rocker arm covers and gaskets. Refer to
Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement
.
