Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 97402 Size: SH

Notice: The assembly of some components will require the use of an assembly lube. Always use J 36850 Transjel™ or petroleum jelly during assembly. Greases other than the recommended assembly lube will change the transmission fluid characteristics and cause undesirable shift conditions and/or filter clogging.

  1. In order to retain the checkballs in their proper locations, use the J 36850 or equivalent petroleum jelly.
  2. Install the solenoid screens, if necessary.
  3. Install the spacer plate and the spacer plate gaskets, as necessary.

  4. Object Number: 97400 Size: SH
  5. Install the valve body and the valve body gasket.

  6. Object Number: 164796 Size: LH
  7. Install the valve body to channel plate bolts to specifications.
  8. Notice: Use a torque wrench to tighten the pump to valve body bolts. Do not exceed the torque specifications.

Notice: Install all the valve body bolts, then torque the bolts in a spiral pattern starting from the center, as shown. If you torque the bolts at random, you may distort the valve bores. This will inhibit valve operation.

Important: Do not use impact type tools on the valve body or the pump assembly.

  9. Install the oil pump. Refer to Oil Pump Replacement .

  10. Object Number: 97350 Size: SH
  11. Install the wiring harness.
  12. Install the case side cover. Refer to Control Valve Body Cover Replacement .
  13. Connect the negative battery cable.
  14. Adjust the oil level. Refer to Transmission Fluid Check .
  15. Important: It is recommended that transmission adaptive pressure (TAP) information be reset.

Resetting the TAP values using a scan tool will erase all learned values in all cells. As a result, The ECM, PCM or TCM will need to relearn TAP values. Transmission performance may be affected as new TAP values are learned.

  16. Reset the TAP values. Refer to Adapt Function .
