Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 254768  Size: SH
  1. Remove the pump drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical-3.8L.
  2. Disconnect the power steering gear pressure hose from the pump. Refer to Power Steering Pressure Pipe/Hose Replacement .

  3. Object Number: 183669  Size: SH
  4. Disconnect the power steering gear return hose from the pump. Refer to Power Steering Return Hose Replacement .

  5. Object Number: 464479  Size: SH
  6. Remove the three mounting bolts.
  7. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  8. Remove the pump from beneath the engine.
  9. Remove the pump and transfer the pulley as needed. Refer to Power Steering Pump Pulley Replacement .

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 464479  Size: SH
  1. Install the pulley to the pump.
  2. Install the three mounting bolts.

  3. Object Number: 254768  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Connect the power steering gear pressure hose to the pump.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the power steering gear inlet hose to the pump to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

  6. Connect the power steering gear return hose to the pump.
  7. Install the pump mounting bolts.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the pump mounting bolts to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical-3.8L.
  11. Fill the system.
  12. Bleed the system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
  13. Inspect the system for leaks.
