Removal Procedure

    Caution: When you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, you must disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause air bag deployment, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  2. Remove the left sound insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side .
  3. Remove the right sound insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Right Side .
  4. Remove the left instrument panel (IP) outer trim panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover Replacement - Left Side .
  5. Remove the right instrument panel (IP) outer trim panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover Replacement - Right Side .
  6. Remove the defroster grille. Refer to Defroster Grille Replacement .
  7. Remove the IP upper trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement .
  8. Remove the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement .

  10. Disconnect the body to IP electrical connectors (1) at top, right outside corner of the IP.

  11. Object Number: 497515  Size: SH
  12. Disconnect the center IP to body harness electrical connector.

  13. Object Number: 428515  Size: SH
  14. Remove the IP retainer. Refer to Instrument Panel Retainer Replacement .

  15. Object Number: 693784  Size: SH
  16. Lower the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.
  17. Remove the IP carrier fasteners.
  18. Remove the IP carrier from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 693823  Size: SH
  1. Install the IP carrier to the vehicle.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install IP carrier fasteners (1,2).
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the IP carrier fasteners (1,2) to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  5. Install the IP carrier fasteners (3).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the IP carrier fasteners (3) to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  7. Install the IP retainer. Refer to Instrument Panel Retainer Replacement .

  8. Object Number: 105537  Size: SH
  9. Connect the body to IP electrical connector (1) at the top, right outside corner of the IP.

  10. Object Number: 497515  Size: SH
  11. Connect the center IP to body harness electrical connector.
  12. Install the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.
  13. Install the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement .
  14. Install the IP upper trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement .
  15. Install the defroster grille. Refer to Defroster Grille Replacement .
  16. Install the right IP outer trim panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover Replacement - Right Side .
  17. Install the left IP outer trim panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover Replacement - Left Side .
  18. Install the left sound insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side .
  19. Install the right sound insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Right Side .
  20. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.
