Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling and SIR Disabling and Enabling in SIR.
  2. Remove the left sound insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side .
  3. Remove the right sound insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Right Side .
  4. Remove the left instrument panel (I/P) outer trim panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover Replacement - Left Side .
  5. Remove the right instrument panel (I/P) outer trim panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover Replacement - Right Side .
  6. Remove the defroster grille. Refer to Defroster Grille Replacement .
  7. Remove the I/P upper trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement .
  8. Remove the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement .

  9. Disconnect the body to I/P electrical connectors (1) at top, right outside corner of the I/P.

    10. Object Number: 497515 Size: SH
  10. Disconnect the center I/P to body harness electrical connector.

    11. Object Number: 428515 Size: SH
  11. Remove the I/P retainer. Refer to Instrument Panel Retainer Replacement .

    12. Object Number: 693784 Size: SH
  12. Lower the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.
  13. Remove the I/P carrier fasteners.
  14. Remove the I/P carrier from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 693823 Size: SH
  1. Install the I/P carrier to the vehicle.

    2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  2. Install I/P carrier fasteners (1,2).

    3. Tighten
    Tighten the I/P carrier fasteners (1,2) to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  3. Install the I/P carrier fasteners (3).

    4. Tighten
    Tighten the I/P carrier fasteners (3) to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  4. Install the I/P retainer. Refer to Instrument Panel Retainer Replacement .

    5. Object Number: 105537 Size: SH
  5. Connect the body to I/P electrical connector (1) at the top, right outside corner of the I/P.

    6. Object Number: 497515 Size: SH
  6. Connect the center I/P to body harness electrical connector.
  7. Install the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.
  8. Install the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement .
  9. Install the I/P upper trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement .
  10. Install the defroster grille. Refer to Defroster Grille Replacement .
  11. Install the right I/P outer trim panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover Replacement - Right Side .
  12. Install the left I/P outer trim panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover Replacement - Left Side .
  13. Install the left sound insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side .
  14. Install the right sound insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Right Side .
  15. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling and SIR Disabling and Enabling in SIR.
