Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 29800 Cut Off Tool


    Object Number: 43575  Size: SH
  1. Support the intermediate pipe.
  2. Cut the intermediate pipe as close to the weld by the muffler as the tool will permit. Use the J 29800 .

  3. Object Number: 119819  Size: SH
  4. Remove the muffler hangers.
  5. Remove the muffler.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the muffler.
  2. Install the muffler hangers.
  3. Install the intermediate pipe to the muffler.
  4. Use a U-bolt type clamp. Position the clamp on driver's side muffler so that nuts are toward the driver's side of the vehicle. Position the clamp on the passenger's side muffler so the nuts are toward the passenger's side of the vehicle.
  5. Align the muffler and the intermediate pipe/resonator to the proper clearance. Refer to Exhaust System Alignment .
  6. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Tighten the U-bolt clamp nuts.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the clamp nuts to 40 N·m (30  lb ft).
