Body Control System Schematics

Circuit Description

The battery voltage is supplied to the SBM at connector C1 terminal C9.

The SBM determines if the voltage is within a valid operating range.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

DTC B1983 sets when the SBM determins that the battery voltage is below 9 volts.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

    • DTC B1983 is stored in the SBM memory.
    • No driver warning message is displayed for this DTC.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

DTC B1983 changes to history when the SBM determins that the battery voltage is greater than 9.5 volts.

Diagnostic Aids

DTC B1983 disables the setting of most other SBM DTCs.

  1. Connect a scan tool to the data link connector (DLC).
  2. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
  3. Select DATA from the SBM DATA LIST.

Is the voltage within the specified range?

9-15.5 V

Go to Step 5

  1. Disconnect the SBM connector C1.
  2. Measure the voltage between the SBM connector C1 terminal C9 and ground.

Is the voltage within the specified range?

9-15.5 V

Go to Step 5

Repair the charging system. Refer to Engine Controls - 3.8L.

Did you complete the repair?

  1. Clear all of the DTCs. Refer to Clearing DTCs .
  2. Cycle the ignition.

Is the DTC still present?

Go to Step 6

  1. Replace the SBM. Refer to Body Control Module Replacement .
  2. Program the SBM. Refer to Body Control Module (BCM) Programming/RPO Configuration .
