  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. With the scan tool, observe the Hands Free State parameter in the cellular phone data list.
  4. Attempt to make a hands free call.

Does the data parameter indicate Active for the Hands Free State?

Inspect the cellular telephone handset for poor terminal contact.

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the cellular telephone Microphone connector from the cellular telephone microphone.
  3. Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF.
  4. Measure the voltage between the microphone audio circuit and the microphone ground circuit.

Does the voltage measure within the specified range?

10-15V

Test the microphone audio circuit from the cellular telephone hand set to the cellular telephone microphone for a short to ground, a high resistance, or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
