Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the battery ground (negative) cable. Refer to

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  2. Remove the hood panel. Refer to Body Front End.
  3. Remove the air cleaner duct. Refer to Engine Controls.
  4. Remove the engine mount struts. Refer to Engine Mount Strut Replacement .
  5. Remove the right engine mount strut bracket. Refer to Engine Mount Strut Bracket Replacement .
  6. Disconnect engine wiring harness connectors from the engine components, the engine sensors and the engine grounds. Refer to Engine Wiring.
  7. Remove the accelerator control and cruise control servo cables from the throttle body. Refer to Engine Controls.
  8. Remove the accelerator control cable bracket with accelerator control and cruise control servo cables and set aside. Refer to Engine Controls.
  9. Remove the power steering pump with lines and set aside. Refer to Power Steering Gear and Pump.
  10. Disconnect the heater outlet hose hose from the thermostat bypass pipe. Refer to HVAC.
  11. Disconnect the heater inlet hose hose from the inlet pipe. Refer to HVAC.
  12. Disconnect the upper radiator hose from the engine. Refer to Cooling and Radiator.
  13. Disconnect the lower radiator hose from the water pump. Refer to Cooling and Radiator.
  14. Disconnect the vacuum booster hose from the upper intake manifold. Refer to Vacuum Booster System.
  15. Disconnect the vacuum hoses from the engine to the body. Refer to Engine Controls
  16. Disconnect the fuel lines. Refer to Engine Controls.
  17. Remove the automatic transaxle vacuum modulator pipe. Refer to Automatic Tranaxle On-Vehicle Service.
  18. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to General Information.
  19. Drain the engine oil.
  20. Drain the engine coolant. Refer to Cooling and Radiator.
  21. Disconnect the three-way catalytic converter pipe from the right (rear) exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust System.
  22. Remove the transaxle fluid filler tube. Refer to Automatic Transaxle On-Vehicle Service.
  23. Remove the transaxle brace. Refer to Automatic Transaxle On-Vehicle Service.
  24. Remove the engine mount lower nuts. Refer to Engine Mount Replacement .
  25. Remove the starter motor. Refer to Cranking System.
  26. Remove the torque converter bolts. Refer to Automatic Transaxle On-Veicle Service.
  27. Remove the lower engine to tranaxle bolts. Refer to Automatic Transaxle On-Veicle Service.
  28. Lower the vehicle.
  29. Remove the upper engine to tranaxle bolts. Refer to Automatic Transaxle On-Veicle Service.
  30. Suitably support the transaxle with floor stands.
  31. Attach the engine lifting device.
  32. Remove the engine from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the engine to the vehicle.
  2. Remove the engine lifting device.
  3. Remove the floor stands from the transaxle.
  4. Remove the safety bolt from the generator bracket and the front engine lift bracket.
  5. Install the upper engine to transaxle bolts. Refer to Automatic Transaxle On-Vehicle Service.
  6. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to General Information.
  7. Install the lower engine to transaxle bolts. Refer to Automatic Transaxle On-Vehicle Service.
  8. Install the torque converter bolts. Refer to Automatic Transaxle.
  9. Install the starter motor. Refer to Engine Electrical.
  10. Install the engine mount lower nuts. Refer to Engine Mount Replacement .
  11. Install the transaxle brace. Refer to Automatic Transaxle On-Vehicle Service.
  12. Install the transaxle fluid filler tube. Refer to Automatic Transaxle On-Vehicle Service.
  13. Connect the three-way catalytic converter pipe to the right (rear) exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust System.
  14. Lower the vehicle.
  15. Install the automatic transaxle vacuum modulator pipe. Refer to Automatic Transaxle On-Vehicle Service.
  16. Install the fuel lines. Refer to Engine Controls.
  17. Connect the vacuum hoses from the engine to the body. Refer to Engine Controls
  18. Connect the vacuum booster hose to the upper intake manifold. Refer to Vacuum Booster System.
  19. Connect the lower radiator hose to the water pump. Refer to Cooling and Radiator.
  20. Connect the upper radiator hose to the engine. Refer to Cooling and Radiator.
  21. Connect the heater inlet hose hose from the inlet pipe. Refer to HVAC.
  22. Connect the heater outlet hose hose from the thermostat bypass pipe. Refer to HVAC.
  23. Install the power steering pump with lines. Refer to Power Steering Gear and Pump.
  24. Install the accelerator control cable bracket with accelerator control and cruise control servo cables. Refer to Engine Controls.
  25. Install the accelerator control and cruise control servo cables to the throttle body. Refer to Engine Controls.
  26. Connect engine wiring harness connectors to the engine components, the engine sensors and the engine grounds. Refer to Engine Wiring.
  27. Install the right engine mount strut bracket. Refer to Engine Mount Strut Bracket Replacement .
  28. Install the engine mount struts. Refer to Engine Mount Strut Replacement .
  29. Install the air cleaner duct. Refer to Engine Controls.
  30. Install the hood panel. Refer to Body Front End.
  31. Fill the cooling system with coolant. Refer to Cooling and Radiator.
  32. Fill the engine with oil. Refer to Maintance and Lubrication.
  33. Connect battery ground (negative) cable. Refer to Battery.
