Replace the heat shield fasteners as necessary.

Check for leaks at the exhaust manifold or the pipe connections.

Tighten the leaking connections according to specifications. Refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications .

Inspect the exhaust muffler with exhaust pipe and tail pipe.

Is the exhaust muffler with exhaust pipe and tail pipe burned or blown out?

Replace the exhaust muffler with exhaust pipe and tail pipe. Refer to Muffler Replacement .

Is there still exhaust noise?

Check for a leak at the exhaust crossover pipe at the manifold flange.

Check for a cracked or broken exhaust manifold.

Is the exhaust manifold cracked or broken?

Check for a leak between the exhaust manifold and the cylinder head.
